Summer Housing 2024

Mandatory Moves

Mandatory move dates for summer housing have been updated to June 16 & June 20, depending on your current spring assignment. Please see more information below.

University Residences offers summer housing to continuing campus residents, students attending WWU Summer Session, and students attending summer programs at local community colleges (WWU login required to apply). Minimum stay for academic residents is three weeks.

Eligibility Requirements

Summer residents must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Registered for at least 5 credits through WWU Summer Session or local post-secondary education institution (WWU login required to apply)
  • Participating in a WWU-related internship or field work
  • A continuing spring resident who has confirmed housing for 2024-2025
  • A resident employed by University Residences or Dining Services

Residents who wish to stay All Summer must meet these additional requirements:

  • Confirmed in 2024-2025 housing
  • Available for mandatory move on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024

Continuous Housing for Current Residents (Summer Intersession)

Only available for current 2023-2024 residents in addition to your contracted length of stay

Room assignments during intersession are typically the same as your summer housing assignment if you live in the summer building that is open, but some residents will be assigned to a temporary location until summer locations becomes available.

Mandatory move dates from spring to summer assignments are Sunday, June 16 or Thursday, June 20 depending on your current room assignment (see below). If you leave campus and are not available during your assigned move date & time, your belongings will be boxed and stored, and your room will be rekeyed - all at your expense.

How to Apply

Step 1:

Apply for Summer Housing

1. Apply for Housing

Be ready to select your building preference and room type, intersession housing (if needed), take a roommate survey, and accept the Summer Housing Agreement. Once you have applied, track your status in MyHousing. Following the application period, applicants who have confirmed their admission will be prompted to pay the $200 housing prepayment.

Pay $200 housing prepayment
Payment due by June 1

2. Pay Housing Prepayment

When notice of prepayment due posts in MyHousing, follow the payment instructions to carefully ensure proper processing of your housing prepayment. 

No housing prepayment is required for continuing campus residents; your current housing prepayment ($200) will continue on file.

3. Assignment Posted

Room assignments are posted in MyHousing, along with roommate and suitemate information. You are encouraged to contact your roommate to get acquainted and plan what to bring.

Living Options

Buchanan Towers

Summer 2024 Housing will be available in Buchanan Towers.

  • Meal plans are optional
  • Max stay is nine-week session (unless eligible for all-summer option)

Maximum Stay

9 week session, ends Friday, August 23 (unless you are eligible for all-summer option).

All Summer

Summer residents who have confirmed 2024-2025 academic year housing are eligible to remain in housing until the start of fall quarter. This contract option is available on the housing application.

Room Occupancy

Double rooms are available for Summer Housing. Some single occupancy rooms may be available, please contact Housing for more information.

*A "Super-Single room" is a standard double room occupied by one person.  Both sets of furniture remain.

Calculation of Rates:

  • Rooms are based on a nightly rate. For example,  the 6-week session is 40 nights (June 23 - Aug 2); the 9-week session is 61 nights (June 23 - Aug 23); "All Summer" is 96 nights (June 15 -Sept 19).                 
  • Meal plans are based on a daily rate. For example, the 6-week session is 40 nights (June 23 - Aug 2); the 9-week session is 61 nights (June 23 -Aug 23)                                
  • Meals and Dining Dollar charges are prorated based on the number of days the contract is held.  Meal plan use greater than the pro-rate amount will be billed to the student's account.                                                     

Payment Due Dates:                                

  • Summer payments are due by June 21, 2024.  Last day to pay without a late fee is July 15, 2024.                                

Mandatory Moves

Spring to Summer Assignment

Current residents who are staying for summer are required to move from their spring assignment to their summer assignment after spring quarter ends. Please see the move dates below depending on your current assignment.

June 16, 2024

If you currently live in Nash, Mathes, Higginson floor 5, Edens Hall, or Birnam Wood stacks 1 & 2 and are staying for summer, you must be available during the mandatory move date: Sunday, June 16

You will receive an email with further instructions prior to your mandatory move date. Plan ahead for mandatory moves.

June 20, 2024

All other residents (see list above for June 16 date) who are staying for summer must be available during the mandatory move date: Thursday, June 20

Summer to Fall Assignment

All-Summer residents are required to move from their summer assignment to their fall assignment* after the 9-week session ends. 

*If your summer and fall assignment is the same, you will not need to move.

September 9, 2024

If you are all-summer resident, you must be available to move during the mandatory move date: Monday, September 9.

Depending on your summer assignment, you will either need to vacate the space by 11am, or by 5pm on September 9. You will receive an email with further instructions and what time you must be moved out by prior to the mandatory move date. Plan ahead for mandatory moves. 

If you leave campus and are not available during the required move date, your belongings will be boxed and stored, and your room will be rekeyed - all at your expense.

Cancellation Prior to Occupancy

Cancellations received after June 1 will result in forfeiture of your $200 housing prepayment. Cancellations must be submitted in writing, in person, or by email to housing@wwu.edu; please include your name, student ID, and a statement cancelling your summer housing reservation.
