Dining Services

Dining at Western is a campus wide experience supporting active healthy lifestyles, sustainability, social responsibility and community development. We understand the importance of a healthy diet, and we strive to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff and visitors through nutritious and satisfying fare.

Dine On Campus

Whether you are looking for a place to eat, curious about health and wellness, or in search of a job with Dining Services, Dine On Campus has you covered.

Your Western ID works like a debit card. When swiped, the meals or Dining Dollars are deducted. To add more funds or check your balance, use Transact or download the Transact mobile app

Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars are included in all on-campus meal plans. Loaded onto a student’s Western card, Dining Dollars work like a debit card at dining and retail markets. Unused Dining Dollars roll over quarter to quarter, but will expire at the end of Spring quarter.

Viking Dollars

The Viking Dollar program is to be phased out starting May 15, 2024. Any unused Viking Dollar funds will be reimbursed. For more information, please review the Viking Dollar FAQs. If you have any questions, email VikingDollars@wwu.edu.

Check Balance and Add Funds

Meals and Dining Dollars and are loaded onto your Western card. To check your balance and add more funds, use Transact eAccounts. 

Meal Plans

Meal plans are required for students living in residence halls and optional for apartment living and off-campus boarders.

Change Your Required Meal Plan

You can make changes to your meal plan through Meal Manager in MyHousing, available from 9am to 2pm Monday-Thursday and 9am to 12pm on Fridays (excluding holidays).

Please note: The deadline to reduce your meal plan is 4:30pm, the second Friday of each quarter. You can increase your meal plan at any point during the quarter.

Cancel Your Optional Meal Plan

If you are an apartment resident or off-campus boarder, you can cancel your optional meal plan by emailing housing.business@wwu.edu.

Residential Dining Commons

Your meal plan gives you access to any of the three all-you-care-to-eat dining halls across campus. Try a location across campus, or eat at the commons closest to your home.

  • Food Hall at Viking Commons (North Campus)
  • The Eatery at Ridgeway Commons (The Ridge)
  • Planet Eats at Fairhaven Commons (South Campus)

Note: you don't have to be a resident to enjoy our dining commons!

Campus Cafés and Markets

Choose from a full range of retail dining locations to suit your taste, budget and schedule. All cafés and markets on campus accept Dining Dollars and credit cards.

Please note: our dining locations do not accept cash, but there is a Reverse ATM outside of Viking Union Market to exchange cash onto a Visa card (can be used both on and off campus).
