Western Weclome Team for Fall 2021

The Western Welcome Team is a volunteer opportunity for students to welcome over 4,000 new on-campus residents while assisting with move in. Each year nearly 300 students help direct traffic, unload vehicles, and assist with moving belongings to student rooms. New and returning students can participate and living on campus is not required. Volunteers receive a free T-shirt and meals during their shifts.

Registration

  • Approximately 300 Western Welcome Team members are needed for Fall Move-In.

Duties

  • Greet and direct students and families as they arrive.
  • Unload vehicles and carry students' belongings to their rooms.
  • Direct traffic, communicate by radio, and monitor long wait times.
  • Maintain residential trash and recycling depots.
  • Shifts are 4 hours per day.

Qualifications

  1. Must be a Western student, but living on campus is not required.
  2. Must be energetic and have a positive attitude.
  3. Must be able to stand for several hours at a time.
  4. Must be able to work outside in the sun, rain or wind.
  5. Ability to lift 30 pounds is preferred, but not required.
  6. Must be receptive to training and willing to take direction.
  7. Must be friendly and helpful to a diverse population of students and families.
  8. Must be available to move in on Wednesday, September 15 (no exceptions) between 9am - 4pm.
  9. Must be available for training and work September 16-19 (no exceptions).
  10. Must be available work all shifts as assigned (no exceptions).

Compensation

  • Receive the official 2021 Western Welcome Team T-Shirt to wear during Move-In.
  • Move into your room on the first day of move-in at no additional charge.
  • Meals are provided throughout all of the scheduled training and work hours (see below).
    • Wednesday, September 15: dinner
    • Thursday, September 16: breakfast, lunch and dinner
    • Friday, September 17: breakfast, lunch and dinner
    • Saturday, September 18: breakfast, lunch and dinner
    • Sunday, September 19: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Additional Information: Safety measures due to COVID-19

  • Maintain proper social distancing from other Western Welcome Team Leaders, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Western Welcome Team Leaders will be required to wear a mask during training and shifts. PPE will be provided.
  • Duties include sanitizing work surfaces, supplies and equipment to ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Please note: Per university policy all student staff must complete vaccine clearance with the university prior to coming to campus to work and prior to receiving keys for on-campus housing.
