Payment Policies

Payment Deadlines

CASHNet electronic billing and payment system is the official method of billing for WWU students. As a student you can access your student account through MyWestern to view your balance and make payments. Tuition, fees and housing charges are due by the first day of each quarter (see below); late fees and interest are consistent with the WWU Late Fee Policy. These charges will be assessed to any balance that is past due. Students with account activity are notified by email at the start of the month that their billing statement is ready to view and pay. Students are responsible for monitoring their account activity and paying their balance on time.

For more information on payments, visit Make A Payment.

Check the Housing Calendar to find out when your account balance is due.

Release of Financial Information

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) ensures that student’s University financial activity is secure. Student authorization is required to discuss activity with anyone (including parents, guardians or spouses). To enable your parents to discuss your student account with University staff, you must submit a Release of Financial Information form to the Student Business Office.

Miscellaneous Charges Form

If you receive financial aid and you want your financial aid award to pay all types of charges on your student account—not just tuition, fees, room and board—you must submit an Authorization to Apply Financial Aid Funds Form. Without this form, financial aid will not cover miscellaneous charges like book store charges, medical service charges, late fees, interest, replacement ID cards or deferred housing prepayments.

Delinquent Accounts

Tuition, housing and meal plan charges are assessed to your student account before the start of each quarter and payment is due by the first day of classes. Any additional charges incurred later in the quarter (for actions like adding a class, increasing your meal plan or upgrading your room assignment) are due by the 15th of each month. Past due accounts are subject to a monthly $55 late fee and 1% interest charge. Failure to pay your student account balance may result in meal plan suspension, eviction from University Residences, registration hold or cancellation. For more information about tuition, fees and payment deadlines visit the Student Business Office.

Collection Costs

The Housing Agreement outlines the student’s agreement to pay for the reasonable cost and expense of collection (see section 8 and 9). This includes, but is not limited to, collection agency and attorney's fees.
