Wired (Ethernet)
RJ 45/Cat 6 Ethernet Cable
These can be purchased at a computer store near you, the WWU Bookstore, and online.
Ethernet Port
The Ethernet port can be found on the side of your laptop. If you are using a desktop, check the back of your computer. Be aware that some computers don’t have an ethernet port.
Connecting Your Computer to the Network
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your computer
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port in the wall
- Open your web browser.
- You no longer have to register your ethernet devices.
TIP: In most cases Ethernet ports are orange; phone jacks are white.
There is only one Ethernet port active in each room:
The left port of the two orange ports or the A port (if the ports are labeled A and B); or the C port (if the ports are labeled C and D). In rooms where there are two sets of ports the active one will be the left orange port on the left side of the room when facing into the room from the door.
Unfortunately, no additional ports may be activated.
NOTE: If you need more than one Ethernet port, you can add a jack by using a router or switch that you already own, with wireless disabled, or you can purchase a switch from a computer supply retailer . ResTek can then help you set this device up. (Our policy describing why wireless needs to be disabled can be found here.)
