Subject: Action Required – Weekly testing required for Fairhaven residents through end of the quarter

Hello,

You are receiving this message as a member of the Fairhaven Community.

As you prepare for Thanksgiving and Winter Break, we want to make sure you include important information about COVID-19 testing into your plan.

Please note: we strongly encourage you to incorporate Washington State guidelines and restrictions, Whatcom County COVID-19 information, and any guidelines or restrictions at your permanent address before you finalize your Thanksgiving and Winter Break plans.

Weekly Testing Required Before Winter Break

Out of an abundance of caution of keeping you, your friends and neighbors, and the on-campus housing community safe, all Fairhaven residents are required  to get a COVID-19 test weekly through the end of the quarter.

If you have questions about the updated testing guidelines, please attend the Fairhaven Community Meeting with your SRD Jon Stubblefield Wednesday, at 8 p.m.: https://wwu-edu.zoom.us/j/93965755102

In addition to increased targeted testing on a faster level, we want to remind you if how you can help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus:

  • Wear a mask
  • Wash your hands
  • Maintain 6-feet apart whenever possible
  • Do not visit friends and neighbors outside of your stack

The Student Health Center (SHC) will continue COVID-19 testing in Fraser Hall through December 10, 2020. If you are on campus, you must get tested weekly until December 10, 2020.

We know you may elect to remain at your permanent address after the Thanksgiving holiday. You must notify your RA/AA at your mandatory floor/stack meeting that you will not be on campus between Thanksgiving and Dec. 10, if you plan to return home. If you miss this meeting, you can complete the form here.

Please note: if your individual plans change and you return to campus at any time during the last two weeks of the quarter (Nov. 29 – Dec. 10) you must schedule your COVID-19 test at Fraser Hall. Simply login to MyWesternHealth and make your online appointment.

During Winter Break

We encourage residents going home for winter break to get tested at their permanent residence. To find testing locations near you visit https://www.hhs.gov/coronavirus/community-based-testing-sites/index.html.

If you remain on campus for part or all of winter break, we strongly encourage getting tested through Whatcom County: https://whatcomcounty.us/3388/COVID-19-Testing

Please note: Testing is highly encouraged during break but not required and will not be tracked by University Residences or the Student Health Center.

Winter Quarter Arrival COVID-19 Test

All residents are required to arrange for a COVID-19 test immediately upon returning. If no appointments are available, please schedule a test for the following day.

The Student Health Center will test every day at Fraser Hall, including weekends, from Jan. 4 – 14 to increase safety for our on-campus community. While the Student Health Center is closed over break, residents will receive an email as soon as they are able to schedule their Winter Quarter Arrival COVID-19 Test.

Please note: if you do not leave for winter break, you are required to schedule COVID-19 test for Jan. 4, when the Fraser Hall testing facility opens. If there is no appointment available for Jan. 4, schedule your appointment for the next available date.

If you have any questions about testing procedures, please email ResLife@wwu.edu.

Thank you,
Housing
