Alpha is part of the larger SHADO community, which consists of Sigma, Highland, Alpha, Delta, and Omega. The Hall offers single, double and triple rooms entered from interior corridors. Community bathrooms serve the students of the same gender living in wings of each floor.
Alpha is home to the community desk, where students from SHADO pick up packages and check out equipment. Each building in SHADO has one comfortable lounge with a large screen TV and smaller lounge spaces for studying or gathering in small groups. There are foosball tables, pool tables and Ping-Pong tables scattered throughout the community, as well as small kitchenettes equipped with sinks, a stove, an oven and a microwave. Alpha features two main lounges, one with a fireplace, piano and foosball table, the other with TV.
A location atop the hill between north and south campus means that classes, the rec-center, the library, and just about everything else is a short walk downhill from the Ridge. SHADO offers its residents a smaller more personal community within each building, but also a sense of a larger community shared between its five buildings, where residents can get involved in multiple activities and find other residents with common interests.
Within each building, SHADO residents enjoy a close-knit community feeling as well as the opportunity to interact regularly with other halls in the area through programming, recreation, and involvement.
Residents are also able to participate in the active Community Council, which sponsors such events as trips to the local SportsPlex, a 'Festivus for the Rest of Us,' dances, and many other programs.
ALCOHOL-FREE: The whole building is designated as alcohol-free, for students who make a commitment to refrain from using or supporting the use of alcohol while in residence. This type of environment gives students an opportunity to live with others who have made a similar commitment.
