About
Hello. My name is Samantha Quiroz. I am in the Human Services program with a minor in Spanish. I am from Burien, WA. My hobbies include going to the rec center either by myself or with friends. Another thing I enjoy doing in my free time is playing video games. Hanging out with friends and family is my favorite. I also like going shopping, browsing, and walking around the mall. Something else I do is dance, I'm a part of a club on campus called Danza Eterna. It is a dance group focused on learning and performing Mexican folk dance. Each region of Mexico has its own unique style of folclórico with specific music, steps, and clothing that reflect historical traditions and values. We've done performances around Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Seattle, and many more. The club focuses on creating a community that celebrates its heritage and keeps cultural traditions alive through dance. Performing is very fun and special to me, as it helps pass on stories from the past and shows the traditions from different regions. I've been a part of this club for academic years now, and I've been a co-chair for the club, which has made me more comfortable speaking up and collaborating as a team with others. It's also helped me be able to plan and organize board meetings as well as handle disagreements. Another position I've had on the board is the activities coordinator, which helped me be able to incorporate members' feedback into planning for events.
