Welcome to the SHADO community! My name is Dong Vo, and I will be your Resident Director. I graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in Accounting and Human Resource Management. I later went to Oregon State University to work on my Master of Education and to become a Resident Director at OSU. My fondness for coffee, brunch, and the many memories at WWU have brought me back to Bellingham. I am excited to see what this year has to offer, and to be a part of your Western Experience! Go Vikings!

Hi, my name is Natasha and I’m a senior studying Human Services! I have a passion for helping people and plan to pursue a career in grant writing or nonprofit management so I’m extremely excited to be a Resident Advisor this year. This is only my second year at Western, however I’m involved in several clubs including a Capella Club and Campus Christian Fellowship (CCF). One of my favorite things about WWU is all the clubs available to students; there’s something for everyone. In my spare time I enjoy singing, hiking and collecting stationary. Don’t hesitate to say hello or ask any questions you may have. I can’t wait to get to know you and I’m looking forward to a great year!

Hello all! I am currently a sophomore with interests in sociology and education, and I use she/her/hers pronouns. In my free time I enjoy volunteering at the local humane society, exploring Bham, and eating lots of yummy food. My favorite thing about Western has got to be the location—snuggled right between the mountains and the water—and as a Seattlite used to all the Northwest greenery, this is a must! I’m excited to be an RA in the SHADO community this year and my door is always open for chitchats over a nice cup of tea.

Hey, everyone! My name is Connor Garrels and I'm a senior studying biochemistry. This is my second year being an RA in SHADO. After Western I would like to go to get a graduate degree in Chemistry and conduct research at NASA. In the past I've been involved with the WWU Racing Team, WWU choirs, and of course a lot in Housing. These days I spend my time studying, hanging around the Chemistry building,  running, and re-watching old episodes of Breaking Bad. I've gathered a lot of info about Western and Bellingham over the years, so please come to me with any questions you have! Western is a great school with a lot of opportunities and if you know what to look for, you will be successful. Here's to a great year!

Hello, all! I am a junior from Boise, Idaho, and I am having a blast here at WWU! I love Western’s friendly atmosphere and Bellingham’s beautiful sites. I’ve enjoyed making new friends through classes, Residence Life, and extra-curricular activities. I am majoring in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. I’m a member of Blue Crew, the best club for Western’s sports fans, and I love playing tennis and volleyball. I also have a passion for reading, listening to music, and Basque dancing. I am very excited to get to know you all! This is going to be an exciting year!

Hello! I am a sophomore majoring in Political Science, where I hope to specialize in International Politics. I love re-watching episodes of The Office, and almost anything that will make me laugh. I love to run and would be happy to go running with anyone! I'm into music, softball, photography, and I am obsessed with anything Disney and would love to show all of you my Disney collections (I have a lot). Last year, I was part of Hall Council, which is a great place to make new friends and create memories, so I encourage you all to join. My favorite things about Western are the amazing people you get the opportunity to interact with, and the beautiful scenery we get to wake up to everyday. It is a great area to have a lot of exciting adventures. At Western, academics are a top priority, and I want to make sure everyone has what they need to be successful! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you, so feel free to stop by my room anytime! I can't wait for an amazing year!

Hello! I am a junior working towards a major in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration and a minor in Leadership. I love movies and comic books. I have a pretty good-sized collection of both with me. One of my favorite things about Western is how close it is to home so I don’t have to go the whole school year without seeing my family. Also, I love the nature that is right outside my door every morning: it is breathtaking. I am a huge superhero and movie buff so come ask me any related trivia. Go Hawks!

Hi everyone! My name is Maral and I’m a junior majoring in Human Services with a double minor in Communication Studies and International Business. When I’m not in class or in the library, you’ll usually find me working out, doing art, watching Netflix or jamming to music. I’ve recently joined MESA (Middle Eastern Student Association), ASA (Arab Student Association), and SUPER (Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights) and I’m so excited to be a member of these organizations. My favorite thing about WWU is its location. I really enjoy living in the heart of Bellingham and being surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. My door is always open if you ever have a question, need some advice or if you just want to talk and hang out! I look forward to making new friends in the SHADO community and meeting all of my wonderful residents in Delta this year!

Hi, I’m Helen and I’m a sophomore here at WWU. I am a Biological Anthropology major and I am working on a minor in Art History. I enjoy participating in hiking club trips, yoga and barre classes at the recreation center, and AS government events. My favorite thing about Western is the incredible nature throughout the Mt. Baker/Cascades and Bellingham Bay area. I am so excited to spend time with my staff making this year the best it possible can be for all the new residents! See you all soon!

SHADO Community Council

SHADO Community Council

Hall council leadership is a great way to meet new people and make an impact in your community. Some past events have included Ridge Carnival, 90’s Backyard Bash and Dance it Off events, Ridge Cup Challenge, Halloween on the Ridge, social justice programming, wellness events, game nights, movie nights and academic support events…just to name a few!

There will be a Kick Off event that will provide more information during the first week of fall quarter, with elections occurring in October. For more information about hall council, talk to your Resident Advisor and keep an eye out for posters or Facebook posts promoting the events!
