Swipe Out Hunger
Western is committed to assist students facing food insecurity on campus.
Swipe Out Hunger (SOH) allows students to “swipe” into the dining commons free of charge with their Western ID card (see Receiving Swipes). SOH relies on donations from current meal plan holders to fund students facing food insecurity. Any meal plan holder can donate unused swipes to help Western students secure food on campus.
Swipe Out Hunger began spring 2019. In the program's first quarter, SOH received donations from over 200 students, giving over 1,000 meals to students in need.
Anyone with a current meal plan can donate unused swipes beginning Monday, Sept. 23, 2019. Donations are accepted through our online request form and at the front desk of any dining commons location.
- Viking Commons (North Campus)
- Ridge Commons (The Ridge)
- Fairhaven Commons (South Campus)
Please note: the last day to donate any unused meals is Monday, Dec. 2.
Students eligible to receive meals must be a matriculated student enrolled in at least one credit or a non-matriculated student enrolled in at least six credits.
Please note: the maximum value of meals is generally $135 (15 meals). The actual amount is subject to change on a case-by-case basis.
Students interested in receiving meals must submit an interest form through the Feeding Western Office (HSH 30). Students can complete the form online or in person at the Feeding Western Office beginning Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.
Please note: meals expire at the end of the quarter. The last day to apply for meals in fall quarter is Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019.
