Swipe Out Hunger
Western is committed to assist students facing food insecurity on campus.
Swipe Out Hunger allows students in need to “swipe” into the dining commons free of charge with their Western ID card (see eligibility). Anyone with a meal plan can donate their unused swipes to help students with food insecurity.
The program launched during the first annual WWU Food Security Week, bringing awareness to Western students facing food insecurity. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend any of the events throughout the week.
Anyone with a current meal plan can donate their meal swipes to the program. Donations are accepted at the front desk of any dining commons location.
- Viking Commons (North Campus)
- Ridge Commons (The Ridge)
- Fairhaven Commons (South Campus)
You can also donate online at any time.
Students eligible to receive meals must be a matriculated student enrolled in at least one credit or a non-matriculated student enrolled in at least six credits.
Please note: the maximum value of meals is generally $90 (amount subject to change based on student need).
Students interested in receiving meals must submit an interest form through the Feeding Western Office (HSH 30). Students can complete the form online or in person at the Feeding Western Office.
Students will be notified of the following via their student email:
- Student has been approved and can swipe in to the dining commons
- Insufficient meals donated to Swipe Out Hunger
- Student is ineligible to participate in the program
- Alternative community resources
