About

Hi! My name is Katie Hammon, and I’m really excited to be one of your RAs this year. I’m a junior here at Western, working toward my major in Communication Studies and a minor in Sociology. I’ve always been interested in how people connect, how we build community, and how communication affects our relationships. I’m excited to bring that interest into my role as an RA and be a part of helping everyone feel welcome and supported. I’m originally from Bothell, Washington, a city just north of Seattle. It’s always felt like a pretty close community, which made me appreciate being around people who look out for each other. That feeling of connection has always been really important to me, and I hope to help create that same kind of environment here on campus.   Outside of school, I really love spending time with my friends. Whether we’re going downtown for dinner, wandering around campus, or just piling on the couch for a movie night, I’m happiest when I’m around people. When I get some time to myself, I’m usually drawing, baking (banana bread and brownies are my specialties), or convincing myself that a little shopping counts as self-care. One of my favorite things to do is explore local thrift stores or scroll through Depop and add to the growing pile of stuff in my cart, even though I fully know I don’t need any of it—and probably won’t buy it either.    One of the biggest reasons I wanted to be an RA is because I know how much it helps to feel like you belong somewhere, especially when college can sometimes feel overwhelming or new. My hope is to be someone you can come to if you need support, a question answered, or just someone to chat with. I’m really looking forward to meeting you and building a great community this year!
