Moving In: Fall 2013
Rooms are assigned on August 1 or September 6 depending upon when you
applied for admission,
applied for housing, or paid your housing deposit. Assignments are posted in MyHousing along with the
names and contact information of your roommate(s) and suitemates. Every effort
is made to place you in one of your housing preferences, but it is not uncommon
to be placed somewhere you did not request. It all depends upon your priority
date, your housing preferences, and everyone else's dates and preferences.
- AUGUST 1: This first round of assignments typically includes freshmen,
transfers and graduate students who applied for admission by January 1, applied
for housing by May 1, and paid the housing deposit by June 15.
- SEPTEMBER 6: This second round of assignments typically includes
freshmen, transfers and graduate students who applied for admission after
January 1, applied for housing after May 1, or paid the housing deposit after
How We Assign
- When you apply for housing, the date you applied for admission to the
University becomes your housing priority date. Students with the earliest
priority dates have greater chance of being placed in one of their housing
preferences. Confirmed roommate groups are ranked by the best priority date
within the group.
- Rooms are then assigned according to housing preferences and roommate
profiles. If you do not have a confirmed roommate group, one or two roommates
are automatically assigned according to the survey you completed in your
housing application. We make every effort to assign like-minded roommates, but
they are not always the same age or class standing.
- If you are assigned to a location you did not request, the locations
you requested were already filled with continuing residents or students who
applied for admission before you. Reassignment may be possible in the event a
cancellation occurs in one of your preferred locations. If you are an incoming
freshman, you may request reassignment at Summerstart
orientation by visiting the University Residences booth at the information
fair. New transfer students may contact Housing@wwu.edu to request reassignment.
