What is the Meal Plan Subsidy Initiative?

In response to the growing affordability concerns during these challenging times, along with our commitment to supporting food security for residential students facing financial hardship, we're happy to introduce a new meal plan subsidy initiative! Chartwells Dining Services and Western have partnered on this new initiative designed to ensure student access to nutritious meals while pursuing their academic journey. 

The priority deadline to apply is June 30, 2025.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for a meal plan discount, you must meet qualifying criteria:

  • Priority deadline: apply for housing and pay housing prepayment (or request waiver) by June 30, 2025
     
  • Live on campus for the 2025-26 academic year and have a meal plan

*University Residences housing staff are not eligible for this initiative.

Discounted Rate

The subsidized meal plan will offer students a tiered discount on the Weekly 10 meal plan price. The annual Weekly 10 meal plan rate without the discount is $4,350 for the academic year ($1,450 per quarter).

How to Apply for a Discounted Meal Plan

Students meeting the criteria are eligible to apply. Subsidized meal plans will be prioritized and awarded to students with demonstrated high financial need, as defined by Western's Financial Aid department.
