Everyone at Housing wishes you a successful finals week!

The information below will help you navigate a successful wrap up for fall whether you plan to stay on campus or return home for break.

Health and Safety Checks

On Friday, Dec. 11 from 4 – 7 p.m. your RA/AA will conduct Health and Safety Checks to ensure your room meets the necessary occupancy safety standards outlined in the Community Standards.

Out of an abundance of caution for both you and our staff, we request you vacate your room during the Health and Safety Checks. If you will be in your room Friday afternoon, please schedule a time with your RA/AA so they can complete the Health and Safety Check without you in the room.

COVID-19 Attestation and Testing During Winter Break

The COVID badge system used to track daily health screenings and testing will be turned off at the end of the day on Friday, Dec. 11. COVID testing at Fraser Hall will continue until Thursday, Dec. 10. Both the COVID-19 attestation and Fraser Hall testing will resume Monday, Jan. 4. Testing is still highly encouraged during break but not required and will not be tracked by University Residences or the Student Health Center.

Staying for break

If you remain on campus for part or all of winter break, we strongly encourage getting tested through Whatcom County: https://whatcomcounty.us/3388/COVID-19-Testing

If you need to report COVID-19 symptoms, please contact 360-303-3702.

Leaving for break

We encourage residents going home for winter break to get tested at their permanent residence. To find testing locations near you visit https://www.hhs.gov/coronavirus/community-based-testing-sites/index.html.

If you experience COVID-19 symptoms, contact your local physician.

Winter Quarter Housing

WWU Incident Manager and Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs Rich Van Den Hul  announced Monday, Nov. 30 that classes with in-person meetings will start the quarter by remote delivery and will continue as such until Tuesday, Jan. 19,when in-person teaching will begin for the winter quarter.

Campus housing, an essential function of the University, will remain available to current residents over the break. Winter quarter 2021 operations and Move In Day for new students begin on Sunday, Jan. 3. You must arrange for a COVID-19 test at Fraser Hall as soon as you return/arrive to campus. If no appointments are immediately available, schedule a test for the next available day.

Enjoy Winter Break and Mask Up

Winter Break is an opportunity to recharge your batteries. If you are staying with us over break, make sure you mark your Winter Break Desk Hours, located on your Community Page and check the front desk for any updates.

We know that it is easy to relax when visiting with family and friends when you go home for break.

Remember: don’t let COVID-19 fatigue defeat you or your holiday plans. Protecting your family, friends, neighbors, and the Housing community does not stop when you leave campus.

Before deciding on an activity over break, take a look at the attached Risk Assessment Chart from Texas Medical Association to evaluate the activity risk of COVID-19.
