FAIRHAVEN COMPLEX CONSTRUCTION

Sewer Line Repairs

A leak was discovered mid-October in the Fairhaven sewer line. Facilities Development & Operations (FDO) has since partially completed visual condition assessments. Immediate repair is needed and will occur between November 8 and December 8, 2023. Repairs will include temporary water shutoff in stacks 1, 2, 3, and 5. Alternate bathroom and water source options in the other Fairhaven stacks will be available during this time. There will be construction occurring in the courtyard, which will restrict walkways and cause noise during the workday. Please read below for more detailed information.

  • Urgent repairs are planned to address issues related to Stacks 1, 2, 3, 5 based upon severity of conditions. Further details regarding this effort are outlined in PHASE 1 below.
  • Less urgent repairs to Stacks 4, 6, 7, 8 will be completed Summer 2024.
  • Condition assessments are still required at Fairhaven Stacks 9 through 12, on the lateral line connecting the Dining Hall grease interceptor unit to the main sewer line, and as further investigative efforts warrant specified actions. Based upon these findings, repair plans will be formulated as needed and updates provided accordingly.

Phase 1

FDO and Contractor team members will be performing repairs at Stacks 1, 2, 3, 5 starting on November 8 (Wednesday) and continuing through December 8 (Friday) with all noisy work being performed only on weekdays from 9:00am – 6:00pm unless otherwise noted. NOTE: If extenuating circumstances require that the work period extends beyond the work period noted, work will stop during Finals Week and commence on December 18 (Monday) as needed.

Service Shutdowns: Domestic hot/cold water and sewer waste line service shutdown to Stack 3 is scheduled for November 17 & November 20 between 7:30 am - 5 pm to support repairs.

  • There will be no access to operable restrooms, showers, or sinks within the buildings during shutdowns. Alternate resources located below.
  • Service shutdown notices for Stacks 1, 2, 5 will be sent the day before planned disruptions factoring in project status to ensure timely updates and required preparatory details.

Impacts: Residents should expect intermittent noise related to heavy equipment operations in external pathway areas near buildings requiring repair, restricted pedestrian flow within the Fairhaven complex (please follow posted detour routes), increased vehicular traffic (please be mindful of trucks), added smells related to repair efforts, visible debris (soil, concrete, removed vegetation), other construction related inconveniences.
