Fairhaven Complex

Located at the foot of the Sehome arboretum, Fairhaven offers students both scenic living conditions and the convenience of being close to campus. The complex is comprised of twelve residential buildings (stacks) centered on a courtyard with a pond. Fairhaven houses residents in suites of single and double rooms that share a common bathroom, with a variety of housing options from two-bedroom suites to the larger five-bedroom suites. Some suites even have a connected balcony for residents to use. Each stack faces a courtyard area, where students can relax, study by the pond, play Frisbee or enjoy a sunny day with friends. Ten out of twelve stacks have a lounge on the first floor with an adjacent TV lounge; some stack lounges also have kitchens for resident use.

The Commons Building, also situated on the central courtyard, houses a game room with pool and foosball tables and a 24-hour computer lab as well as the Haven, a convenience store serving snack foods, fresh sandwiches and coffee. The Dining Commons is located on the second floor.

Fairhaven has an active Hall Council that puts on many activities for residents in the hall throughout the year. The most notable event is EndFair, a huge musical festival and concert put on at the end of each year. But on any given night, residents are likely to find things going on - from study groups to dances, movies to Frisbee games. One of the largest programming initiatives that BT takes part in is South Campus Glory. Residents from Fairhaven, the BT Community and Birnam Wood gather to represent their respective halls in a variety of social events such as dances, movie nights and ice cream socials, and friendly competitions with the goal of developing pride for the South Campus community.

Viking Launch Community

Available exclusively to freshmen arriving fall quarter, the Viking Launch program gives participants a focused head-start on college life at Western. Students arrive to campus seven days early for an intensive week of study and preparation for a successful first year. Residence as cohort is an integral part of the program and Viking Launch communities are located in both the Fairhaven Complex and Ridgeway Kappa.

Fairhaven College Community

For students enrolled in Fairhaven College, the Fairhaven College Community offers an optional living-learning experience in stack 11 of the Fairhaven Complex. Students benefit from living among a group that shares academic goals and interests, where residential programs and activities complement the classroom. To ensure successful placement in the Fairhaven College Community, you must complete the admission process for Fairhaven College and select the Fairhaven College Community in your housing application.

Substance Free Community

This community promotes a lifestyle free of alcohol, marijuana and all illegal substances. Students housed in this area agree to abide by University policies and regulations regarding substance-free living; any student failing to do so will be sanctioned and may be moved to a community more suitable to their lifestyle choice.
