Kappa houses both men and women in single, double and triple occupancy rooms with interior corridors and a community bathroom that serves the students of the same gender living in each Wing. Kappa is a small, close community with a tradition of service and leadership. Residents get connected with both the hall community and within their wing of the building.
A lounge on the ground level features a TV, Ping-Pong table, foosball table, and fireplace. On the second level there is a large main lounge with a fireplace and kitchenette. Smaller floor lounges and kitchenettes are situated throughout the building. Kappa is next door to the tennis/basketball court as well as the Ridgeway Commons, where students can find the dining area and computer lab.
Ridgeway Kappa is currently under renovation and scheduled to reopen in fall 2015. Improvements include new fire-suppression and alarm systems, new bathrooms, lounge furnishings and media, new wardrobes, flooring and lighting.
Available exclusively to freshmen arriving fall quarter, the Viking Launch program gives participants a focused head-start on college life at Western. Students arrive to campus seven days early for an intensive week of study and preparation for a successful first year. Residence as cohort is an integral part of the program and Viking Launch communities are located in both the Fairhaven Complex and Ridgeway Kappa.
Kappa is a small, close community with a tradition of service and leadership. The residents, a mix of returning and first-year students, can easily connect with both the hall community and within their individual wings of the building.
The Kappa hall council is active in the hall and on campus. The council, students, and staff organize various educational and social events throughout the year. The council's efforts culminate each spring with Kappa Karnival, a large, free event with live music, food, and games in Red Square.
