Highland Hall sits at the north edge of the ridge close to the core of campus, and is part of the larger SHADO community, which consists of Sigma, Highland, Alpha, Delta, and Omega. The hall houses residents in double room suites in a quiet environment. The suite-style living has two double bedrooms connected by a common bathroom, and each bedroom has its own exterior door accessed from outside covered hallways.

Each building in SHADO has one comfortable lounge with a large screen TV and smaller lounge spaces for studying or gathering in small groups. There are foosball tables, pool tables and Ping-Pong tables scattered throughout the community, as well as small kitchenettes equipped with sinks, a stove, an oven and a microwave. The Highland Lounge building features a large main lounge with a pool table, a foosball table, TV and a fireplace, and also houses the SHADO Resident Director's Office.

A location atop the hill between north and south campus means that classes, the rec-center, the library, and just about everything else is a short walk downhill from the Ridge. SHADO offers its residents a smaller more personal community within each building, but also a sense of a larger community shared between its five buildings, where residents can get involved in multiple activities and find other residents with common interests.

Activities

Within each building, SHADO residents enjoy a close-knit community feeling as well as the opportunity to interact regularly with other halls in the area through programming, recreation, and involvement.

Residents are also able to participate in the active Community Council, which sponsors such events as trips to the local SportsPlex, a 'Festivus for the Rest of Us,' dances, and many other programs.

Elective Living Environments

QUIET HALL: Stack One of Highland is designated as a quiet area. Quiet area residents sign a quiet hall contract when they move into their room. Noise violations in quiet halls may result in removal from the community. Designated quiet hours begin two hours earlier and end two hours later than standard quiet hours.
