Most residents leave campus for the break between fall and winter quarter;
however, you are allowed to remain in residence during the break.
If you are leaving for any part of the break, be sure you know how to prepare
your room before you leave.
If you are staying for any part of the break, note there are limited services
available on campus during the break. Know what to expect regarding the
reduction in campus services, maintenance projects in the halls, and mail
delivery if you plan to stay.
Desk hours at the halls will be limited to:
Dec 12 – 17 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dec 18 – 26 Closed
Dec 27 – 31 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Please note that if you move out during the break, you may be subject to
the winter quarter checkout penalty in addition to other possible fees.
Letters and packages sent by all carriers (including USPS, UPS and FedEx) are
delivered to the Westerns mail center where they are sorted and distributed to
residential buildings, normally for same-day delivery. USPS delivers to campus
Monday through Saturday; UPS and FedEx deliver to campus Monday through Friday.
When ordering goods online, please be aware that Saturday delivery by UPS and
FedEx is not available. All mail distribution to residential buildings is
suspended on Sundays and postal holidays; mail delivery is not available when
front desks are closed.
To ensure delivery to your residential building, your mail must be properly
addressed and include your official first and last name.
Parents or family members sending you anything of value or importance—such as
cash, gift cards, passport or medication—are strongly encouraged to use a
method that includes insurance and delivery confirmation, such as Priority Mail
or Certified Mail.

discuss plans with your parents or a family member.
While new freshmen and transfer students are guaranteed housing their first
year at Western, returning residents are housed on a space-available basis. We
value the leadership that returning residents bring to our residential
communities, and we are typically able to accommodate all returners who want to
live on campus.
Details about housing renewal will be on our website by February 1, 2017. You
will also be notified through email, print mailing, social media and posters.
