Housing Timeline for New Students

New students who meet the housing deadlines are guaranteed housing their first year at Western, or remainder thereof if admitted mid-year. The University operates on the quarter system and new students are admitted each quarter. The following timeline applies to new students with an admission term of fall, winter or spring quarter. If you are a new student with a summer admission term, you must submit two housing applications: one for summer housing, and one for academic-year housing with a start term of fall quarter. See the summer housing timeline here.

1. Apply for housing online.

Once the housing application opens, you are eligible to apply for housing even if you have not yet confirmed your admission. Select the housing application that coincides with your admission application term, and log in with your WWU ID number and birthdate. Choose a meal plan, select your housing preferences, take a roommate survey, and accept the Housing Agreement. After you submit your application, begin tracking your status in MyHousing and explore your roommate options. Late applications may be subject to temporary assignment or space availability.

Priority Application Period
Fall Quarter: February 1 — May 1
Winter Quarter: October 1 — December 1
Spring Quarter: January 15 — March 1

2. Check MyHousing for notice of deposit due.

Following the application period, housing applicants who have confirmed their admission are prompted in MyHousing to pay the $200 housing deposit. Do not pay your deposit until you receive notice of deposit due; early payments will be returned.

Notification Begins
Fall Quarter: Late May
Winter Quarter: Early December
Spring Quarter: Early March

3. Pay your deposit online or by mail.

When notice of deposit due appears in MyHousing, follow the payment instructions carefully to ensure proper processing of your deposit. To make sure your payment went through, check your deposit status in MyHousing a few business days after submitting or mailing your payment. If your deposit remains unpaid after the deadline, we will assume you no longer want housing and your housing application will be canceled.

Deposit Deadline
Fall Quarter: June 15
Winter Quarter: December 15
Spring Quarter: March 15

4. Check MyHousing for your room assignment.

Room assignments are posted in MyHousing along with roommate and suitemate information. You are encouraged to contact each other to get acquainted and plan what to bring. The assignment process gives priority to students who applied for admission the earliest. Every effort is made to place you in one of your housing preferences, but it is not uncommon to be placed somewhere you did not request.

Room Assigned
Fall Quarter: August 1 & September 1
Winter Quarter: Late December
Spring Quarter: Late March
