Housing Application Guide
Let's get started.
Applying for on-campus housing? Check out our tips below to make the process as easy as possible!
Apply online in the MyHousing portal. If you're having issues logging into MyHousing, please review the following:
- You are an admitted Western student. If you have accepted your admission to Western, you will first want to set up your universal login with your WWU student email. Log into MyHousing using your universal login.
- You are not yet admitted to Western. If you do not have access to your WWU email yet, you can create a temporary portal login to apply for housing.
In the application, you will be asked to declare both your housing gender (female, male or neutral) and your room gender (gendered or all-gender). Your choices in this section may affect your room and roommate choices.
The gendered housing option allows you to find roommate matches and choose spaces with students who have selected the same housing gender as you. You will share a room, suite and/or bathroom with students of the same gender identity.
The all-gender housing option allows you to find roommate matches of any gender and choose spaces designated for students wanting to live in a mixed-gender environment. You will likely share a room, suite, and/or bathroom with students of a different gender identity.
In the application, you will have the option to indicate your interest in a living learning community (LLC). Living in one of our living learning communities is optional. LLCs include: Black Affinity, La Comunidad, Pride, and Honors. All LLCs are open to everyone!
Space is limited in each themed community; you will receive a welcome email if we are able to place you in that community, or a waitlist email if you have been added to the waitlist.
You will be asked about your location & room tier preferences in the application. This does not affect your options during the room selection process. If you participate in room selection, you may select any open space. Preferences listed in the application are only used if you do not select your own room and are assigned a room by University Residences.
Housing rates vary by room tier and room size. We strongly recommend you review the room & board rates to help inform your choice during room selection.
If you plan to request accommodation, please carefully review our page on disability accommodation in University Residences. Students must complete the accommodation process with the Disability Access Center by the deadline.
You will fill out a brief roommate profile as part of the housing application. This information is used if you do not select your own room and are assigned a room by University Residences. If you utilize the Roommate Manager tool in MyHousing, your roommate profile will be pulled from the application, with the option to add additional information.
For more information on roommates and tips for coordinating during the room selection process, visit Roommate Options.
Room Selection is a feature in MyHousing that allows students to select their own room assignment for fall. It operates on a first come, first serve basis. Opening times are based on your housing priority date (when you confirmed admission to Western) and when you submitted your prepayment. For the best chance at finding a space in one of your preferences, we recommend submitting your prepayment as soon as you receive your housing offer.
Not sure where you want to live? Explore our community pages to learn more about your options! If you do not participate in Room Selection, your room will be assigned.
Meal plans are required for all students living in the residence halls, except for Birnam Wood residents. Review our meal plans and choose the one that best fits your needs. You will choose your meal plan in Room Selection after picking your room.
In the application, you will be reminded to add an emergency contact in Web4U if you have not yet done so. University Officials will attempt to reach your emergency contact in the event of an emergency.
When you complete Western’s Housing Agreement, you are accepting a contract that states that you plan to live on campus from your move in date through the end of the academic year. It is important to read through this agreement carefully and be aware of any potential fees or penalties.
