National Residence Hall Honorary

Of The Month Awards

Of The Month Awards (OTMs) are a great way to recognize excellence in leaders and programs on Western's campus. National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) members select winning OTMs each month from a variety of set categories listed below. One OTM is selected as per category each month. All winning OTMs will be sent onto the regional level. Our region, the pacific, includes British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, Australia, Hawaii and Nevada. The pacific region (PACURH) will select winners and then submit them to the ! national level. Nominations are DUE BY 5 P.M. ON THE 5th OF EACH MONTH. (For example, nominations for October OTMs are due the 5th of November.) OTMs must be submitted online directly to the OTM Database. They should be month specific, spell checked, and focus on residence hall activities. If an OTM is not month specific it is subject to disqualification and may not count towards Hall of the Year. The OTM voting committee also has the right to disqualify any OTM that they feel is not up to par. For example when asked to describe how a program went, "good" will not be accepted as an answer. Please be as specific as possible when writing OTMs. NRHH will notify all nominees, winners, and their hall councils.

OTMs can be submitted in any of the following categories:

  • General:
    • Advisor: An advisor is a Resident Director, the Assisant Resident Director or any advisor for a committee, group, club, or organization. The nomination should display how the advisor was instrumental in helping the leaders they work with grow, learn, and develop.
    • Community: This would be an OTM for any of the Residence Halls on campus.
    • Executive Board Member: Be sure the person you are nominating for this award is eligible to receive it. The nominee needs to be from a campus wide residence hall governing body, not a hall government. For example RHA or NRHH. Bring out the nominees special efforts, not just fulfilling the job requirements of the position.
    • NCC: National Communications Coordinator. This nomination should include what this NCC has done to go above their normal job requirements.
    • Organization: This would be any group or club on campus. This nomination should include what this organization has done on campus during the month that you feel has made a special impact on you or the community as a whole.
    • Resident Advisor: Also known as R.A. Be sure to include the requirements that they have fulfilled and show what they have done beyond these requirements during the month of nomination. When writing the nomination be sure to include any unique contributions to the position the individual makes.
    • Student: This category is intended for the new or average student leader who puts forth some special effort during the month of nomination. Possible things to include in the nomination could be leadership development, contribution to the people in their community, and activities they were involved in. Please note that campus-wide executive board members, NCCs, and resident assistants are not eligible for this award.
    • Spotlight: This category is to recognize the efforts of people who do not fall into any other categories. The nominee cannot be an advisor, exec board member, NCC, resident assistant, or student. Possible nominees could be food service personnel, night security staff, or janitorial staff. Please include how this person has helped out an individual or contributed to the well being of the building.
  • Programs:
    • Educational: This nomination would include any program with a foucus on educating students on any particular field of inerest.
    • Diversity: This nomination would include any program whose main focus is on promoting diversity.
    • Community Service: Any program whose focus was on community service on or off campus.
    • Social: Any program that is focused on promoting community togetherness.
